BlueWater Federal is looking for a Senior NOC/Linux Engineer to support operations and assist in the strategic planning of future IT modernization solutions for the Department of Energy (DOE) program in Washington DC.



  • Serve as the Network Operations Center (NOC) resource responsible for managing the network firewalls and network security configurations.
  • Ensure critical systems are monitored in Solarwinds; Schedule and review bandwidth tests in PerfSonar or equivalent
  • Conduct utilization trending and perform capacity forecasting
  • Perform network security activities to include: Manage firewall: maintain firewall policies, patch/upgrade firewall and implement approved changes; Validate and update content of network map
  • Ensure conformance to IC, Enterprise Architecture and Security Standards; Participate in IC Community Shared Resources Working Group.
  • Comment on new ODNI/NIST standards / regulations as applies to client environment: Respond to cyber incidents as defined in DOE-IN Incident Response and local SOP; Track scheduled and unscheduled outages
  • Track systems impacted by outages, and estimated time of resolution
  • Unix/Linux security hardening and provide Subject Matter Expert level support to other system administrators on configuration best practices
  • Design, install and maintain Linux servers with various operating systems; Conduct routine security audits and utilize Unix/Linux audit log infrastructure to reconstruct events
  • Develop automation tools by writing/modifying scripts for deployments, maintenance, and system monitoring


  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 15+ years of relevant IT Engineering experience
  • Must have an active TS/SCI or Q clearance
  • Experience with Network Routers and TACLANEs
  • Experience with the following technologies: Splunk, ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), FireEye, Solarwinds, PerfSonar preferred
  • Experience with scripting best practices and demonstrate the ability to develop and edit shell scripts for the purpose of automating and standardizing repetitive action
  • Candidates must have knowledge of the IC and audit collection policies.
